Life is Beautiful

I've been blessed with the opportunity to focus my energy on doing what I love, nurturing SoulMakes. This beautiful adventure has only just begun! It takes courage to go in a new direction, it takes courage to try new things, explore new paths. Courage is the spirit that enables us to face difficulty, danger or pain, although we are not without fear. Each day we commence to walk through our fears, trusting in the process, and every accomplishment gives us the courage to go further still. Today I continue to clear away barriers that keep me from being who I truly am in this world. Today I have faith that my Higher Power is guiding me and I trust that I will receive all the inspiration and courage I need to grow. 

It's a beautiful life.

The Lake

Trev and I went to this gorgeous park for my uncle's birthday party. It had hiking trails, big pavillons for gatherings, a nature center, and a beautiful lake complete with paddle boats. It was great to spend time with my family and snap a few pictures.

I'm falling in love with photography all over again. I put my camera down for a while and concentrated on other art forms, but SoulMakes has brought me back to it. Most the pictures you see here on the blog (aside from the ones of me) were taken by me. Photography is not like riding a bike, I forgot a lot of basic camera knowledge and of course, with the rate at which technology improves things have changed. But it's given me the opportunity to learn so many new and wonderful things about the art of taking pictures. It's not hard for me to find wonder in almost every situation, every place, no matter how mundane it may seem. From an early age I was taught to look for the beauty in everything, especially in the things I felt lacked it and I'm so grateful for that vision. When I look around at the world I see art and my camera helps me capture it.

Tropical Escape

I've been dreaming of a tropical escape, filled with exotic flowers, blue skies, clear ocean waters, brilliant hues all around and sunshine. It's obvious that the summer season has me very inspired. I'm using lots of bright color pops, sun bleached cords and sea shells in my newest designs. These latest creations are no exception, made with hand carved coconut beads, radiant all natural Turquoise, cowries and vivid agates. I just want to pile it all on and run off to the beach!

Weekend Highlights

Over the weekend I spent some time at one of my favorite places, Meadowlark Botanical Gardens. It's a wonderful little haven rich with all kinds of bright flowers and thick greenery. There's ponds swimming with ducks and covered in lily pads. The scenery offers so much inspiration and brings such a natural calmness to my soul. It's easy to quiet my mind in such a lovely place and allow myself to take in the beauty of the world around me. I'm always overwhelmed with gratitude when Mother Nature displays herself this way, She really is the best artist.

The Substance of My Soul

This is what SoulMakes is made of, sea shells, leather, gemstones and a lot of heart. It's been so wonderful to watch the evolution of our designs take place. I feel very connected to the materials I work with. So often a new creation is born out of simply playing around with a pile of sea shells or crystals. Sometimes it starts with a drawing and then somehow turns into a necklace. It's inexplicable really, I just try to stay present in the moment and let inspiration flow. I don't know anything about the day beyond the moment I'm in and that's ok. I choose to feel love and inspiration in this moment. This is the substance of my soul.

Coastal Highway

 At last, our summer look book is is here!

Our beautiful SoulMakes Godess is layered up in so many of our gorgeous Summer jewels, featuring Cowrie Shells, Agates, Turquoise and Crystals. This line was created out of a deep lust for the ocean and longing for hot summer days. We shot on location in Ocean City, Maryland, a beach Trevy and I both grew up visiting frequently. The book is named after Ocean City's main drag, Coastal Highway and it completely embodies that warm feeling of a sunny day spent at the shore.
