Over the weekend Trevor and I went on a little date, wandering around Old Town Alexandria. The third oldest historic district in the country, it is only about a half hour away from home, one of the reasons I love Virginia so much! Old town is an architectural heaven, littered with colorfully painted brick buildings, many of which have been carefully preserved for hundreds of years. Each and every single building we walked past seemed to invite me to take a photograph, with their perfectly weathered exteriors. The textures of the old paint chipping away ever so slightly, little cracks here and there and vines growing in every direction are always irresistible to me with my lens. The buildings inhabitants are an eclectic mix of restaurants, antique shops and little artist studios. It was such a wonderful day exploring all that Old Town has to offer!

What can I say? I'm a real jeans and tee-shirt kind of gal. I like to take it easy and keep things simple. I am almost always wearing a white tee, I love a graphic and cut offs are a way of life in the summer. It's my uniform. I pulled out my Frye cowboy boots the other day and felt a little extra all American. Naturally, no outfit is ever complete without loads of SoulMakes jewelry to top it all off. Trevor and I strolled through the grassy pastures near our house the other day, enjoying the summer sun and sweet Virginia scenery! Trevor captured the moment perfectly :)

I hope you all had a wonderful and safe weekend celebrating the Fourth of July! Trevor and I ventured out to the battlefields down the street from our house. Virginia is chalked full of historical sites from the Civil and Revolutionary War. It's always a little impressive and certainly thought provoking to be on those battlefields and read the signs telling the tales of our states past, good or bad. The land is beautiful and green, littered with wild flowers and hilly dirt trails. We walked around for a bit in the setting sun, holding hands and snapping pictures. I wore a beautiful, flowy, lace slip over my favorite pair of cut off jeans with some Frye boots and a cowboy hat. Feeling very festive, I grabbed a mini American flag to twirl around with, it felt like we were amidst a beautiful cowgirl dream land. After our little photo shoot we got some soft serve covered in sprinkles while we watched fireworks erupt in the sky. It was such a lovely, long weekend spent with my wonderful husband.
