Smith Mountain Lake

Oh summer holiday, how I relish the very thought of you! We spent a long weekend back in Virginia (nowhere near where we're from) at Smith Mountain Lake. We drove up, meandering our way through a few states, stopping at every antique mall within eye shot. Arriving in Virginia late in the evening, we saw the sun setting, painting cotton candy colors across the sky. I'd almost forgotten the winding roads and lush green hills the state has to offer. South Carolina is flat.

We stayed with my in-laws, right on the lakefront with weathered old docks spreading out across the water. Boats cruised around, lifting the wake to a steady, soft wave. Here and there ducks splashed about. Mostly the place was quiet, bringing a very welcomed relaxing rhythm to the whole trip. Smith Mountain Lake is fairly large, snaking back and forth through tall pine trees, sparkling in the sun. In some spots along the shore little sandy beaches form, with rocky edges and pine needles ghosting the ground.

We wandered around for a few days taking in the scenery and basking in the glow of the summer sunshine. We tried paddle boarding for the first time, did some rock climbing and enjoyed time together with our family. Any change of landscape and views brings on great inspiration for our creative minds. Naturally, we took the opportunity to snap some fun photos!

Farmer's Market

I'm wearing:
SoulMakes jewels
Free People bell bottoms, shaggy cardigan & lace up top
Vintage suede fringe vest (made for 12 year old boy, ha!)

Not far form our house, heading towards our favorite village of Lucketts, the roads wind up and down between lush green fields dotted with farmer's markets and antique shops. This is such a perfect time of year to hit the market places. As fall settles in and we prepare to spend more time in our beautiful home, we want the freshest foods to cook with love. We want fill our the house with warm, yummy aromas or hot chili brewing and bubbling to perfection and fill our bellies with hearty, seasonal treats! So we went in search of the perfect pumpkin and also picked up some delicious fresh produce and a giant bottle of my favorite cherry apple cider. It's such a lovely way to spend the weekend, picking fruits and veggies with my love. We cooked up a storm when we got home, making a perfect veggie chilli. We sat out on our deck, in our cozy sweaters and enjoyed a delicious meal in the cool autumn air. I hope you all are having a wonderful start to the season!

Sunflower Storm

I'm wearing:
SoulMakes Bracelets, Necklaces & Diamond Ring
Spell Designs Eagle & Quartz Rings
Free People crop top & skirt
Vintage Concho Belt (found in Nevada)

Over the weekend Trevor and I drove out to one of our favorite local spots, McKee Beshers Wildlife Area. The land is covered in perfect rows of tall sunflowers. This year, we missed peak season, all the bright yellow petals had fallen away and the sunflower faces were turned down. Nonetheless, it was  beautiful to see them at this phase of life. There was a nice summer storm rolling in with big dark rain clouds. The sulky sky, with it's swirling cloud formations and the wilted flowers really seemed to compliment each other perfectly. I danced about in some of our newest creations, my favorite of which is a new collection of little layering necklaces. Enjoying the cool air that that the cloud cover momentarily provided, my husband and I snapped away, spending a creative moment together. It was a magical summer storm that came and went in the blink of an eye, but not before we captured some of that rolling thunder with our cameras. It remained mostly rainless, until we left the fields. I have always loved playing in the rain, especially at this time of year. Watching the sky take care of the land, seeing the Earth quench it's thirst so that it may flourish for us.. It's a truly amazing site to behold. In so many ways Trevor and I look to these instants as an example of how to best care for each other, a metaphor in nature made by our Creator. I cherish every moment that I get to witness Mother Nature adding a brush stroke to the painting that is our world.

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend!
