The City

Over the weekend I hung out in DC with my big brother. He is one of my most favorite people, being his little sister is one of the best roles I play in life. We're super lucky that we live close to each other and get to hang out frequently! He took me to Mellow Mushroom for lunch and it was delicious. I had never been before, but I can easily say it is now in my top 3 favorite pizza places. We wandered around Adam's Morgan for a bit and then headed to Georgetown to do a little shopping. I love exploring the city, I've lived here most of my life and I can honestly say it never gets old. There's tons of thrift stores, vintage finds, record shops, tasty food and you never know when you'll stumble upon a flea market or craft fair. Not to mention the old architecture, brought to life with vibrant colors and eclectic murals. There is always something to do and more to see.

Hope you all had an amazing weekend!

Happy Storm Day

So here comes hurricane Sandy, are you prepared? So far it's just a whole lot of rain, but we'll see what happens. Just in case, we've made a short storm prep guide...

Number 1..

In case of flooding, if you live in low lying ground, like us, elevate your valuables.

Save the Fryes!

Number 2...

In case the power goes out and you're unable to brew coffee/tea, make sure you have an ample supply of caffeine sources..

Number 3...

Make sure you have something to do, since driving to work is out of the question in this dangerous weather..
I'm stocked up on Chewy Bars, listening to Fleetwood Mac and making all kinds of new jewelry for the Shop and in preparation of upcoming events.

Number 4...

Have a handsome boyfriend to keep you company <3

So there you have it.

In all seriousness, who knows when this weather will turn, we've got plenty of bottled water, non perishables, gas in both cars, and because half of our apartment is basically underground, we did elevate all our valuables.

Everyone out there on the East Coast; Stay safe, stay dry! And don't forget to head to the Shop for a coupon code lasting through the 31st.

Weekend Update

Every now and then I'm struck by the how cool the area we live in is. Sometimes I forget that we've got a lot going on here, besides terrible, awful traffic. Northern Virginia is filled with lots of little towns that all seem to have their own farmer's market, and quaint little town centers with frozen yogurt shops and deli's. Not to mention, we're a few minutes from DC which is filled with some pretty amazing thrift and vintage shopping, art museums, I think maybe the president lives there also? I'm jus sayin, it's kinda cool. Sometimes on Sunday's Trevy and I like to stroll around Old Town, it never fails to remind me that, despite traffic, this area isn't so bad.

I love old buildings. Anyways, I also got several new designs finished over the weekend. Stay tuned for a preview and be sure to take a look at the shop for new product!!

Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend!

Weekend Recap- Thrift Adventure

We are so lucky in the DC area to have so many amazing vintage and thrift stores. This weekend a new thrift/consignment store opened, Buffalo Exchange. We first fell in love with Buffalo Exchange in Denver, Colorado. Trev has family out there, so we visit frequently :) And we were super excited to find that they were opening one right here in DC (14th St corridor).

Trev and I both found some really great items. If you have a Buffalo Exchange in your area you should definitely check it out!!

and here's this furniture store we stumbled across, it felt like we had walked onto a 70's movie set..

We also stopped by another one of our FAVORITE vintage stores, Dr K's (U ST corridor)!

Dr K's is by far my favorite vintage store ever! This guy has an AMAZING collection of vintage levi's, graphic tees, tooled leather purses, luggage, dresses and do you see all those boots?! And I die over his framed vintage denim(pictured above) every time I go in. It's mostly men's apparel, with a small women's sections. But I don't care, I have never seen a more beautiful collection of Americana style vintage in my life. I should also mention that Dr K himself is very nice and extremely knowledgeable and his prices are great. We both walked away with some great items. OK you get it, I love Dr. K's.

I'll be doing another post later with all our thrift picks from yesterday :) Stay tuned..

Handmade Love

I love being a part of the handmade community! To be honest, I sort of just discovered it. I grew up with an artist mother and so I have always approached the world with an "if I can make, why buy it?" attitude. And that's pretty much what I've done my whole life. I've made all kinds of things from jewelry, to sculptures, scrap books, photos, etc etc.. Making things it's very meditative for me, it's my happy place :) I was given this artistic talent and using that creative energy is my way of showing gratitude for it. So there's a lot of love and warm fuzzies that goes into each piece. I think that's why hand made goods feel so special to me, because I know that any artist must have put an immense amount of care into what they made, just as I do.

When I finally got up the courage to start my little Etsy store I was introduced to a whole new world. There are so many amazingly talented people out there making some seriously beautiful things. And the fact that I also get to read about the maker, see pictures of them, get to know them a little, makes the buying experience that much more special. We're so lucky we have all this stuff right at our fingertips. I could spend hours pouring through of it..Here's a few of my favorites..
