DIY Flower Garland

With spring slowly settling in, I'm incorporating some of the changing season's elements around our home. You may or may not have noticed, I'm pretty obsessed with flowers in general. This little DIY flower garland is super easy and super adorable!

Here's what you'll need

- Fresh flowers (nothing super delicate or large, I used Carnations & Daisies mostly)

- String (go with something thicker, like embroidery floss, not thread!)

- Small needle

- Scissors

Step One

Trim the flower heads off of their stems

Step Two

Thread you needle into the base of the flower head and all the way though the flower

Step Three

Add more flowers until you're satisfied with the length. You can leave a lot of space in between each flower, or a little or none at all. Whatever you think looks best!

Step Four

The best part! Decorate your home with it!

These garlands look perfect strung up in a window! But there's no shortage of ways to decorate with them. You could string a few over a bed for a nice "head board" look. I totally want to try making one necklace style and wearing it around town like a lei. Hang them across the top of a door way or you could even make a short one to hang from a door knob. I also hung some vertically, in front a window to create a sort of floral curtain (pictured below). For those I used a bead at the end to prevent nay flowers from falling off.

The nice thing is, these garlands will still look beautiful even after the flowers have dried (pictured below)!

DIY Holiday Ornaments

The simplest DIY ever done, so simple it may not even earn the title "DIY" but here it goes..

Supplies:

Empty Holiday Ball Ornaments (definitely get plastic, not glass, if you're clumsy like me)

Glitter, Moss, Crystals, Lavender & anything else you think might look good inside (why didn't I think to use feathers?!)

Twine 

Not that any explanation is really necessary, but just in case.. Fill those empty ornaments to your heart's desire. For glitter and lavender, I recommend using a funnel of sorts. A coned piece of paper works just fine. Just a warning, if you plan on filling with crystals or anything heavy, make sure the metal top is secure(especially if you're using glass ornaments, which you should not!), those little metal guys slip out really easily when there's that much weight in the bottom. If you feel like it, tie a little twine around the top for easy hanging. Lastly, adorn your tree with these little DIY beauties and don't forget you favorite SoulMakes Ornaments either! There ya have it, there's really nothing to it! Get creative, mix and match materials, play around!

DIY Wedding Favors

As many of you know, Trevor and I will be getting married in just two short months! Both of us are artists, so it makes sense that our big day is going to be the greatest art project ever. We ordered some clear mason jars, with handles for our guests to drink out of at the reception. We decided to personalize them a little bit by drawing a unique design on each glass. They will make the perfect little take home gifts for our friends! This DIY is super easy, all you need is some clear glasses and a white paint marker(or you can you use as many different colored markers as you like)!

Bracelets by SoulMakes

I decided to draw little mandala style designs on the glasses. Start from the inside and work outward on the circle. Using either a dot, diamond or triangle in the center of the glass and fanning out from there with different geometric shapes. Have fun with it, don't worry about perfection!

Of course, I had to draw a few feathers too!

They look even better once they're filled with lemonade! I think our wedding reception guests will love these.

We are also planning on having a little "crystal buffet" where guests can fill their cups with rose quarts, amethyst, citrine etc at the end of the night to take home as an additional souvenir.

And these beauties also make a really gorgeous vase for flowers and feathers

Baby's Breath

Valentines day is in two days and as most of you know there is a SoulMakes wedding on the horizon! I haven't shared much about wedding planning lately, so I thought now would be a good time. In just four short months, I'll be marrying my best friend and partner. Trevor and I have been so blessed to be able to work together running the business. SoulMakes has allowed us to share our creative vision and passion not just with each other, but with the world. We make a great team, balancing each others creatives and intellectual sides perfectly. It's only fitting that our wedding should be the most beautiful art project of our lives! For the last few months we've been working our hands off on various decor projects to adorn the big ceremony and reception. Naturally, there will be tons of  little SoulMakes elements incorporated in every detail! It's going to be handmade from beginning to end, starting with our hand drawn save the dates & invites. I've also made a collection of white dreamcatchers, feather garlands, crochet doilies, and we've even hand sewn white lace curtains to hang at our gorgeous venue. Of course, I'll be layering up in some white leather SoulMakes jewels, along with my bridesmaids and don't forget about the flowers!

Our big day is going to be a very laid back, bohemian affair, so we're keeping the flowers easy. The simplicity and grace of baby's breath and a bit of lavender are the perfect touch of effortless elegance. Over the weekend I got busy with a little practice round of floral arranging. We'll be using my collection of antique glass bottles as vases. Some of them I decorated with white leather, cowrie shells, coins and turquoise, in the classic SoulMakes fashion! I even played around with draping some necklaces and bracelets around the bottle necks. Others I had fun drawing little mandala style designs, using white paint marker. I created little boutineers for the guys using feathers and a  dash of baby's breath. Of course, there will be lots of crystals scattered amongst the flowers too. We're having so much fun planning our wedding!

I am beyond excited to marry the most handsome and brilliant man I've ever known!
