Coastal Highway - 35mm Edition

Beach

Before we headed out of town to shoot our Coastal Highway Look Book, Trevy scored us 60 rolls of our favorite film. Interestingly enough, while I was busy shooting digital he was snapping away some behind the scenes photos with his 35 mil. Normally, it's the other way around. Here's a look..

It was actually quite chilly that day..

Light and Dark

Each year at this time Mother Earth humbles me with her graceful transformation from dark to light. It seems my soul is nourished by the extended hours of sunshine and the fresh, bright colors. It's easy to see how we connect lightness with the idea of being happy but, I think we tend to associate darkness in general with sadness or even evil. It's often used to describe what is wrong in our world. However, darkness is merely a simple lack of light and it's those very shadows that artists and photographers alike love to play with. It's in those shadows that so many of us find true inspiration, so that we may live in the light again. A friend of mine asked me to make this custom Dreamcatcher for her, all black. It was instant love when I finished this beauty, the overflowing feathers and leather lace are rich with a certain extravagant lightlessness. It got me thinking about the differences between light and dark and what they represent..

I was so inspired by the dark dreamcatcher that I decided to make on of my own, all white. I tend to drift towards anything white, ivory or cream colored. I recently learned that white is the color of purity and clarity. It embodies the presence of every color in the light spectrum, representing wholeness and completeness. Black is the color of the unknown, even secrecy, but it also has the ability to absorb negative energy and protect you from harm. Both colors are so beautiful, each with such a profound presence!

Look out for new Dreamcatchers coming to the shop soon!

Which end of the spectrum do you lean towards?

Weekend Highlights - BTS Coastal Highway

Over the weekend we headed out of town to shoot our next look book: Coastal Highway. We're very excited about this book for many reasons! We got to photograph on location in Ocean City, MD which also happens to be a vacation spot we frequent during the summer. It's about a 2-3 hour drive from us, a straight shot down route 50. Ocean City itself is a relatively small place with two main roads, Coastal Highway and Baltimore Avenue. I've been visiting this beach my whole life. When I was kid we'd head out there for family vacations, as a teenager it was often a Spring Break landing for me and my friends and as an adult I've made a tradition out of quick trips just to watch the Sunrise. I love the small town vibe it offers, with tons of mom n pop restaurants, including our favorite post-sunrise breakfast spot and hole-in-the wall surf shops. Ocean City couldn't be a more perfect place for us to feature our latest summer designs. We set up on the beach and moved our way out onto the boardwalk and into town, completely embodying Coastal Highway! I am dying to see what Trevor captured, in the mean time, here's a few snaps from behind my lens..

We were absolutely thrilled to feature the stunning designs of Girl On a Vine, we could not get enough of these gorgeous kimonos! We also had the pleasure of styling the beautiful Burnt Orange bikini by Mandalynn Swim, it looked so adorable with our newest collection of Agate Jewels and a big stack of SoulMakes bracelets!

Look out for SoulMakes latest look book, hitting the shop soon!

Special Thanks to Soul Makes goddess, Katie, for doing an amazing job modeling for us this weekend! I can not wait to see Trev's shots, I know they're going to be so extraordinary!

Hope you all had a fantastic weekend!
Love,
