Botany Bay

Botany Bay is a real slice of paradise just down the road from the new SoulMakes studio. It's the kind of place you see in movies but can't imagine it exists in real life. Palm trees grace the shore line, tangled up in the branches of sun bleached seedlings. Old driftwood buried in the sand reveals itself during high tide. Perhaps the most amazing thing about this preserved piece of land is all the treasure that washes up on the coast. The kind of shells you might spend hours searching for, hoping to find that one unbroken, perfectly curled conch shell, they're right at your feet on Botany Bay. Everywhere you look, ancient shells ghost the ground. This is the kind of place where you truly leave only your footprints and you take no souvenirs. Although a big part of me wishes I could take home shells by the bucket full, that would ruin the experience for the next traveler. (Also, they check your bag on the way out ;) You're not allowed to take any shells, instead people hang them on the surrounding palm trees. It's really a magical thing to see!

We wandered around this little haven for a few hours one weekend. Dipping our toes in the water and watching the pelicans soar above us. We couldn't be more grateful to live in a place where this kind of scenery is just an everyday occurrence. Our new home town fills us with all kinds of inspiration, some of which is quite evident in our latest line!

The Washout

Here at the washout the coast is quiet. The waves roar away, but the shore is calm and cool. Wirey old trees, weathered by storms, hang around amidst tangled up palms. Morning Glory flowers weave across the sand. Off in the distance the light house stands tall. There's something so peaceful in the air here, carried by the breeze, fluttering through my hair and flowing all around me. A perfect stage to inspire my creative instincts, collecting shells and driftwood, hanging my jewels on waterlogged branches and posing for the occasional picture. What a beautiful place to call home!

That Summer Feeling

Finally, summer is upon us. The hot sun blazing away, breathing fresh life into mother earth with fantastic blooms and lush green grass. It's a colorful time of year, it's our favorite time of year. Sweet bird songs fly through the air, their melodies charm our imaginations. We cant help but drift off into a summer time day dream, filled with palm leaves and tropical flowers, and the ocean singing it's lullaby of hushed waves. That summer feeling. No matter how old we get this season seems to carry a certain sense of freedom. It's that time of year when we finally give into the wanderlust we've been feeling for so long. We let ourselves get a little wild.

Our latest creations were inspired by that magical summer feeling. Made with vibrant gemstones, colorful fringe, bright wool weaving, wood beads and of course, lot's of shells! All it's splashy textures are sure to transport you to a tropical place in your mind.
