Wednesday - What We're Working On

Sandy came and went, my heart goes out to all my friends across the East coast that were affected, New York, New Jersey and one of my favorite beaches, Ocean City. I wish you all many blessings as you begin your journey to recovery. Fortunately, we did not have any flooding into our apartment, we did not lose power or really see anything other than a whole lot of rain. I did get to stay home Monday and Tuesday, because power was out at the office. So, Trevy and I busied our hands preparing for this weekends events (Hoping they aren't cancelled due to storm damage)

And a new breast plate for myself!

Trevy got more displays ready..

He took some average looking thrift shop frames, painted them with white crackle paint and sanded them a bit for an antiqued look, then be covered the backs with burlap to hang some of our Statement Pieces from. He never stops impressing me with his creativity <3 I'm so glad we got to spend some extra time together over this long weekend!

We had a pretty great four day weekend and we're feeling pretty prepared for our adventures this weekend. We'll be in Annapolis, if any of you local fans want to come by and see us! 

We're super grateful that Sandy left us unharmed and the sun is shining bright this morning!

Weekend Recap- Thrift Adventure

We are so lucky in the DC area to have so many amazing vintage and thrift stores. This weekend a new thrift/consignment store opened, Buffalo Exchange. We first fell in love with Buffalo Exchange in Denver, Colorado. Trev has family out there, so we visit frequently :) And we were super excited to find that they were opening one right here in DC (14th St corridor). 

Trev and I both found some really great items. If you have a Buffalo Exchange in your area you should definitely check it out!!

and here's this furniture store we stumbled across, it felt like we had walked onto a 70's movie set..

We also stopped by another one of our FAVORITE vintage stores, Dr K's (U ST corridor)!

Dr K's is by far my favorite vintage store ever! This guy has an AMAZING collection of vintage levi's, graphic tees, tooled leather purses, luggage, dresses and do you see all those boots?! And I die over his framed vintage denim(pictured above) every time I go in. It's mostly men's apparel, with a small women's sections. But I don't care, I have never seen a more beautiful collection of Americana style vintage in my life. I should also mention that Dr K himself is very nice and extremely knowledgeable and his prices are great. We both walked away with some great items. OK you get it, I love Dr. K's.

Weekend Recap

Well, mostly I spent the weekend grocery shopping and doing boring adult things. But we did stop by the fair on Saturday night..

Oh and here's this really cool car we saw..

Of course I found some time to work on some new things for the shop..

I think I'll pile this one on with a choker and the Skull Necklace :)

Details

This whole jewelry thing started out because I really love to wear a great, unique piece of jewelry. I especially love to wear several pieces, layer it on. Sometimes maybe, I go a little too far, but whatever. Anyway, I started making things just for myself, things that I wanted to wear, because I couldn't seem to find a unique enough piece of jewelry that was super good quality in stores. So I thought it would be fun to show you all how I style some of my very own creations..

This is my Crystal Vision necklace, layered with once of my newer pieces, which is coming soon!

Black Turquoise Falls, which I hope to have posted in the shop by early next week.

Brown Turquoise Falls, layered with the Crystal Choker and a whole bunch of bracelets!! Including the Chunky Turquoise,  Metallic Wrap, and the newest - Leather Charm Wrap(Coming soon!) 

Oh and here's a thumb ring I made out of copper. I am still learning the craft of metal work, so it'll probably be a while before I put anything like this in the shop, but I think it's pretty cool

So that's what my pieces look like in real life, when they aren't being photographed on a solid wood background :) I hope this inspires you all to layer on some of own jewelry. Or stop at SoulMakes and pick some up!
